Ho Ho Ho

Santa and his friends were one of the desserts served at the Christmas party the other night. They were a big...little tiny...hit! They are marzipan and only about an inch high. The detail is amazing!

This is our favorite spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We order a little lunch from the deli and make ourselves at home. 

The marble in this mantle is so gorgeous!

And the oil paintings are equally beautiful...Mother Nature's creations combined with the artistic endeavors of man make for an elegant room.

So.....we added our own bit of mischief. Have you read this book? It makes Annie and me laugh out loud...and the illustrations are wonderful!

Gingerbread on the high seas...

This ship greets you as you enter the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island. It fills the lobby with the wonderful aroma of gingerbread and delights all...young and old. It is a highlight of the trip for Annie. 

I snapped these pics quickly on the way out yesterday and they aren't the best...but will give you an idea of the size of this yummy vessel.

Ingredients: 3000 Eggs...

435 Egg Whites..13 Gallons of Milk...14 lbs. Holiday Spices...300 lbs. of Butter...900 lbs. of Sugar...1200 lbs. of Flour

   

Don't try to sneak a bite...it has a very thin coat of shellac to preserve it for the duration of it's voyage.

The entire hotel is enchanting this time of year.

These tin roofed "cracker" houses are part of a shopping village close to the hotel. It was rainy and grey yesterday...these pics are from another year's visit. Did get a little Christmas shopping done.

The name "Cracker House" originated during Florida's heyday of cattle raising. The whips used by the cattlemen to move herds made crackin' sounds and they lived in wooden houses..."Cracker Houses".

We also went peacock watching. A neighborhood we always visit while up here has free roaming peacocks....the residents even have feeders...low to the ground...just for these noble fowls.

Last night, our group distributed many, many gift bags full of art supplies to children who might not have as merry a Christmas as most of us...the very best true spirit of Christmas!

Travelin'

It's December so we are once again in Amelia Island. 

We checked in here....our group has been coming here every December for so many years that the bellmen remember us and call us by name...they all remember Annie and she loves it! Wonderful folks here at this beautiful place!

Amelia Island is on the Atlantic Ocean...east of Jacksonville.

I'll be spending time here....drinking something warm!

The beach was deserted late yesterday...it's chilly and grey...perfect weather for a stroll.

The beach is so wide it takes a while to reach the water using the wooden walkways.

Amelia Island is one of our favorite spots...and this is one of our favorite hotels. It is decked out in all it's Christmas finery and looks so beautiful! 

I'll be snapping some pics and sharing them with you later. 

Annie and I will be hitting our favorite spots today...a couple of great antique shops are on the top of our list.

My kitchen window...

Red...red...red...this year I decorated my kitchen window using vintage and antique ornaments.

The more "loved" an ornament is the better I like it. 

The old Santa heads are German.

The old flocked Shiny Brites take me back to my childhood. I'm really enjoying this little bit of nostalgia as I do my daily kitchen routine!

Angela Hillstrom's cardinal...he can look out the window and see the real cardinals at the feeder.

My view...

No matter what the season, this photo is always in my window. Taken years ago, on a visit to Williamsburg, in front of a white house with a black roof...just like our little house.

December..oh my!

Tree is up...but not decorated. We like to leave it bare, except for lights, for a few days. I would leave it this way if it were up to me...but I am over ruled by a certain daughter itching to get on with the decorating. It smells so good!

I am so very far behind...nothing new there. 

My red chest arrived and I am very happy with it. Decked it out with my other red painted pieces...some fruit and greens. 

Can't believe tomorrow is December! Crunch time!

Come to Momma!

When we were in North Carolina we visited a wonderful antique mall called the Tobacco Barn. It is a huge old warehouse sort of place...a picker's paradise. Our car has little room for any extras when we travel, and I had already bought a few goodies, so I knew I was "only looking" when I walked through the doors of this fun place.

Of course I saw lots of baskets I would liked to have brought home, but I knew there was no room. It was cold that day...really cold in that old building with cement floors...and I'd left my coat in the car so I was doing a quick walk around...and then I ventured into a really good booth and spied this Sheraton painted chest...red...with black decorative painting. I admired it and mentioned to Mr.MW that it was red and black and reasonably priced. Annie was cold too, so we left and went about the rest of our day.

The next day I kept thinking about the chest. When Mr.MW returned from his run I told him I'd really like that chest to come live at our house...long story short...I made a call to the Tobacco Barn...asked if that was the best price and could they get it to Florida. A few more calls and a trip back to give it a good looking over and the lovely red chest was mine...an early Christmas present from my fellow.

It will arrive today. I can't wait to brush the dust and dirt off!
