August Kitchen Window

August...are you kidding me? It's August? 

I have not been posting...or commenting lately. I have been having a little "wing" trouble.  Rotator cuff...impingement...frozen shoulder...Ouch! I've been trying to rest my arm, hoping it will mend. 

I have, however, been getting a little doll making in...I sew by hand and, luckily, it doesn't hurt to do so. And, of course, could not let August make an entrance without a new window scape.

A few of my favorite collections joined forces this month. Shooner redware...early tin bird cookie cutters...and green ivy. Indoor plants are so great for the health of your home...they filter a lot of bad stuff.

This sweet little lad is by the talented Kolene Spicher. He is an original watercolor and I was so happy to add him to my folk art collection. Kolene painted the frame as well.

He is holding a book...about birds. Perfect!

My paternal grandmother was a lover of birds, and I'm sure that love was passed directly to me. Well, that and my name.

Love this diminutive early cutter...barely two inches high.

The flock gathered in an old caddy painted a wonderful old mustard color.

 Hoping my wing heals soon so I can get back to visiting you all.

It's not easy being green...

We have left summer behind and moved to the season of the witch. Green...it's not an easy color to be.

Especially when your nose is long...and twisted like a tree root. She will be one of those girls that folks describe as, "attractive...but not in a conventional way".

She seems relaxed and at peace with that description. She's hoping the dress will be her redemption. I see a velvet pumpkin in her future and I immediately recall the words of my favorite Henry..."I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion". Hmmm....

Henry David Thoreau...succinct and eloquent...a rare breed.

Annie makes the news!

Annie gave our friends, Sheila and Gene, a beautiful stained glass star while we were in Orlando a few weeks ago. In the center there is a photo of them at the Florida Bar Convention last year. We have given several of these stars as gifts and they are always a big hit.

July 4th

July Kitchen Window 2014

Can't believe it's already July! My Kitchen Window is decked out in red, white and blue...of course!

Some of my favorite things just happen to be those very colors. I collected blue tranferware before I collected red transferware...the end result of my obsession for both makes for a perfect patriotic window.

This wonderful print, by the gifted artist Susan Daul, always graces my July window. It isn't the Fourth without her handsome Continental soldiers beating time and marching above our sink.

Mugwump Woolies early calico and ticking firecrackers share space with coverlet stars.

Love the Grecian Key pattern around the rim of this wonderful old bowl!

Two very early handleless cups with lovely scenes...a milkmaid...

...and a dapper gent courting a maiden over tea in the garden...sounds like a perfect way to win her heart.

Thank you for all the lovely comments so many of you left on my last post. Annie is still floating on the kindness and support...and yes love...that she felt from the hundreds of wonderful people who shared her big day. The justices of the Supreme Court of Florida, Senator Bob Graham, family and friends went out of their way to congratulate her in person. And so many of my friends out in blogland congratulated her on my blog...together all of you helped make a day our girl won't soon forget. Mr. MW and I thank you...and Annie thanks you, too...and sends you each a big hug.

Annie's Big Day

Just a few hours ago, at the Florida Bar Annual Meeting, our Annie was given a very big honor. This is the time of year when the new president is sworn in, and the out going president thanks and honors those who have helped make his (or her) year as president a success. 

Eugene Pettis, our friend, and now past president, recognized our Annie as a "special angel" and awarded her with her very own President's Award. He then came down off the dais and gave Annie her award to a roaring standing ovation. It was unbelievable! Annie was so surprised! 

It was a very good day!
