Early tin cookie cutters are among my favorite collectibles. I know I am not alone in this "obsession", and I also know that when I say some cutters can set my heart racing...well, there are those of you out there, I am fairly certain, that have had that feeling as well.
The little bird above is one of those cutters. It is a mere two and quarter by two inches. It is so sweet and folky!
...and it's a bird!
By contrast, this fellow is a hardy nine by five inch steed.
Large or small, these early works of long ago tinsmiths make me smile.
Are you an early cookie cutter collector? Do you have a favorite subject, or do they all "make you smile"?
The wind here during the night was fierce, as the last bands of TS Debby bid farewell to the Gulf Coast. Streets remain closed, and debris is everywhere. The sky is bright this morning, as the sun struggles to appear. It's still very windy, but bits of blue sky can be seen through the clouds.
Are you watching the Olympic Trials? We love the swimming competitions...Mr. Mugwump swam with Rowdy Gaines on their high school team, and it's fun to see him commentate.
Hope your Summer is going well!
Enjoy the day,
Robyn
Love them both! I hope you've seen the last of TS Debby.
ReplyDeleteI just started a tin cookie cutter collection last year. I love them. Your cutters are marvelous. I think that bird is sweet!

Good morning Robyn,
ReplyDeleteI too share your love of of cookie cutters and old tin and LOVE both cutters!!! I especially have a weakness for heart shaped ones.....no surprise there!!! *smile*
So happy the storm has passed and hope all the clean up crews can get things ship shape again soon!
Enjoy your day!!
Warm Hugs~~

These two shapes would make a darling hooked rug design with the little bird perched on the horse's back! Might have to enlarge it a bit, but how fun that would be! (you'd have to do a mirror image of the bird to get him to face the same direction)
ReplyDeleteRobyn,
ReplyDeleteOh my, oh my do I love these two old cookie cutters! I've got a few horses but none this big. Love the shape of him. I've been thinking about starting to collect some bird ones but haven't as yet.
I hope the clean up in your area goes well. Take care. Hugs, Lori
I've been thinking of you with TS Debby and praying you're safe. I have a SIL named Debby and wouldn't wish her on anyone. ;o Glad to hear the sun is peeking through.
ReplyDeleteAnd you KNOW I love old cutters....While I go with any that strike my fancy at a given time (which is usually any one I can find since you don't see the good old ones often here), I also gravitate toward anything bird (gee, wonder why??) I also like hearts, cats, rabbits, stars, and the leaf ones with the intricate detailing on the inside.... Ok - so I don't meet many cutters I don't love. But the ones I've seen in your collection are amazing!
Hope all is well - I have a bit of catching up to do!! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Hello Robyn, I also share your love of old tin cutters, they make me smile also, such a sweet little bird one. I have many, some from my Mother when she would bake us cookies so long ago. I have been lucky enough to find some really old tin ones. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteI say a big yes to the cookie cutters! Love yours. Take care, Janice
ReplyDeleteGlad the weather is clearing. That little bird is so sweet. What a great size on the other.
ReplyDeleteRobyn, these cutters are to die for!! That folky little bird is so cute and I have a special fondness for the horse cutters!! I also collect...have for over twenty years now and my very favorite is a larger one shaped like a Colonial Man from the late 1700's or very early 1800's. Thanks for sharing these special pieces with us! Enjoy your day, Tina

GOOD MORNING ROBYN,
ReplyDeleteI first want to say a big thank you for your nice comment on my blog!
Wow, gorgeous cookie cutters. I have a 'thing' for them too...have approx 22 older ones but not rare, antique kinds...but they are favorites. I collect for the visual as I think most of us do.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful collection.
Karen
Robyn, your wonderful antique cookie cutters did indeed make my heart go pitter-patter, especially the small bird. This morning we finally have sunshine after a week of rain, the weeds in my gardens are as tall as sunflowers, time to get caught up in yard chores before the hot humid weather comes in. Hope you are enjoying this lovely summer's day, greetings from Maine, Julie.
