Just lookin'

Yesterday, we roamed around downtown Pensacola. The cemetery we visited is not the oldest in Florida, as I said before, rather, one of two old cemeteries in Pensacola.
It is located in the "historic" area and does contain many old graves...Civil War era. I snapped a few shots of the most interesting details on some of the headstones.

...wonderful lamb...

This lamb sits atop a stone and is small. I spotted him as we circled the cemetery looking for a place to park...then I had to search for him once inside. A good "hooker" can spot a sheep anywhere!

...going up...

Yeah...I know what you're thinking...

...five children from this family...how heart breaking...

...ouch...

Rebecca was laid to rest in 1869 and the tree has swallowed up her stone in the many decades since.

Another lighthouse added to our list...we have been to many of the lights here in Florida. This one is actually located on the Naval Air Station Base. Mr. Mugwump goes up...I wave to him from the ground.

It's wicked rough out there...red flags flying means no swimmers in the water.

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

    1. L...My family home in Virginia backed up to a cemetery with markers in the ground rather than gravestones. People who were new to our home always thought it was a golf course! My father always said, those folks can't do you any harm...it's the living you have to worry about. Thanks for coming by.

  2. Very interesting pictures - thank you for sharing them.

I always love a good storm as long as there is no damage. That is a rough ocean!

  3. So glad you shared some of your sights with us - Cemeteries are one of my very favorite places to be....and time never passes quite as quickly as when I'm in one. That lamb is amazing - so glad you went back and found it for us. Good Hooker you are! ;o) Sad about the 5 children - makes you wonder what happened - fire? disease? worse? And equally sad about poor Rebecca for some strange reason..... Stay safe down there - looks like it could be wicked! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Thanks for the tour. I love that headstone in the tree. It makes you wonder why the headstone was never moved long ago.

  10. Thanks for sharing your traveling adventure. The headstones are works of art and yet some so sad. Loved seeing the beaches even if it was super windy!
