September...on my frame

Bits of the coming season are appearing in my kitchen window. Here a diminutive squirrel and leaf cookie cutters rest in the bowl of an early tin candle holder. This pair will set the tone and the rest of window will fall into place around them. It's a work in progress.

Soon to become a work in progress...this is a Karen Kahle pattern called Antique Lion. It is a large rug 48.5 by 25.5. I have wanted to start it for a very long time.

I've pulled a few piles of wool out...translate...my living room is a total mess of wool. I'm trying to get a picture in my head of where I want to go. Karen's original reflects her wonderful paler pallet...I tend to lean toward a darker look.  Color planning will be keeping me busy today on this, "feels like Monday, but it's really Tuesday" sort of day.

A new look in my window...a new rug...a new season...I'm going in!!!

***Keeping those devastated by Isaac in our thoughts.***

Have a great week...welcome September!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

  1. Hi Robyn,
I love your old cookie cutter in the candle holder - so prim and ever so Fall. I'm so happy Sept. has arrived - I can finally put the hot weather behind me (well, hoping anyway...yesterday was so hot and humid!).
Your new work 'to do' is going to be great - and soooo big!
    Blessings,
    Karen

  4. Great post Robyn! Love your sweet little squirrel and leaf cookie cutters and can't wait to see what you do with the lion rug. I know it will be wonderful! It's hard to pick wools sometimes. I have to think about it for a while with some rugs until inspiration strikes! Like my Harvest Goode Things by Lori B. I think I finally know what colors so hope to get going on it soon. Have a great day. Hugs Lori

  6. Yes! Welcome September! I'm always so slow at color planning a rug... sometimes I think, it's best to just jump in and start hooking... then let whatever you just hooked tell you what to hook next.... enjoy!

  7. I love your neat squirrel cookie cutter. I think that I would use it to cut cookies and make more squirrels for decorations and then put it back in the candle holder. Your display is very appealing. I'm sure that your lion rug will look superb when hooked. I'm looking forward to seeing some progress on it soon. JB

  10. I would never be able to choose colors for such a project! It fascinates me how hookers can create such wonderful variations in the designs.

  11. I can completely relate to "translation - my living room is a mess of wool" At my house add in cross stitch and basket materials. What fun is it to work in my basement studio when everyone is in the living room? Can't wait to see your choices of wool and progress that you make on this one. ~Ann
