June Kitchen Window

My collection of vintage wooden darners is part of my June kitchen window display. The collection started many, many years ago, when I was in my teens and found a small chest that held my grandmother's sewing items. In that chest was her darner....it became the first of many. Through the years, friends and family have gifted me with darners. I have another collection of darners painted black. Housed in a large glass cylinder, I have moved it from it's spot on the bookcase to the window for the month of June.

I like when a group of similar objects become a piece of art.

This dolly was painted by Stacey Bear and usually hangs in my laundry room. A multi-media work, the painting is painted over layers fabric and printed page. I was drawn to her because she bears a likeness to my MW dollies.

This sweet rosemary topiary was made by the talented Pat Gaddy
of Olde Bittersweet Farm.

Dolly and darners in my kitchen window for this month of June...

Have a wonderful weekend!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

  1. Your container of Darners is lovely. Hard to believe that 'generations past' actually used this item regularly ! I actually like the idea of "mending" and I can still remember my Grandmother with her Darner and a small basket of socks with holes. They are fond memories ;)

  3. I love your collection of darners. I see one has been put to good use. This is the first time I have seen darners before even though I darned many socks in my younger days.

Your June window display is beautiful.
    Have a great weekend.

  8. Looks great Robyn! Those darners bring back memories. I remember my great grandmother having one. I sure wish I had it now! I had to delete my previous comment. It seems I can't multi task. My husband was talking to me while I was trying to type.

  13. I love that painting. It's been a long time since I've made a primitive cloth doll and lately have felt a calling to make one. Thanks for the inspiration.
