I love turkeys! This magnificent fowl is the work of Lori Brechlin...Notforgotten Farm. There is something about this fellow that makes my heart sing. He hangs in our home every day of the year, but will become part of our seasonal celebration decor. This beautiful painting has such a presence...he really looks like an old fraktur.
And of course, our German candy containers are strutting their stuff on the sideboard. We call them "Turkeys in the Straw".
These turkeys each have their own personality and expression. When I look at them closely...I think I can hear them gobble.

I have to say that I was hesitant to post today. My mind is on those fellow citizens who have lost so much in the wake of Sandy. The devastation and loss is so unbelievable. So many are just beginning the long, difficult journey of recovery...so many, with nothing left, must start over.
Today, I will be packing up Halloween and pulling out more turkeys...but, somehow, this year it won't be quite so much fun. My thoughts will be with those who are suffering.
Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Hi Robyn, I too feel a bit guilty pushing forward with the holidays, while others are suffering so...I have a special place in my heart for turkeys, we have a flock (wild) of 22 which have been visiting the yard daily since the end of August...Your turkey collection is wonderful! Have a lovely evening, Julie.
ReplyDeleteBe still my heart! I have a special fondness for turkeys - my favorite birds along with robins. Yours are absolutely divine! I love Lori's paintings - and this one is now my absolute favorite. And your antique turkey candy containers - oh my stars! I have several reproduction ones, but have never seen an antique one in person. Love the "turkeys in the straw" :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, keep watching the storm coverage on the news and just can't even imagine what they are going through.
Blessings, Patti

Hi Robyn,
ReplyDeleteloved this post...the painting by Lori is just beautiful...she is so very talented and how wonderful to own one of her pieces.
Oh those Turkey's are so vintage looking I just love them...the style/design/look takes me back to when I was a little girl. I think my mother had something like these.
I too am so sad for those who were in the wake of this horrible storm...it has changed so many lives forever. I pray for all of them.
I also want to thank you so much for your continued prayers for Tina and her family. You are so sweet.
Blessings,
Karen
Oh...my...turkeyness....! Wowsers....that painting by Lori is positively glorious....but I'm loving your candy containers as well. Makes me almost regret not decorating for Thanksgiving anymore (Most years I get so carried away with Halloween and Christmas that it's a challenge to get one season down and the next up....besides, in our family, Thanksgiving was never "here" at our house, and decorations for the season to my liking were so difficult to find....but you have me reconsidering Girlfriend....) Yes, I, too, find a different cast on the days in the wake of Sandy....Keeping a candle lit as well....Hugs ~ Robin
