Beachin' it

We're heading down to the beach tonight. We don't go as often as we should.

We'll grab a grouper sandwich at Frenchy's (the best on the beach) and head on down to watch the sunset.

We'll play in the sand...

and be entertained by the locals...

and come home saying, "We should do this more often!"

Have great weekend!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Contrast.....the large and small of it

Early tin cookie cutters are among my favorite collectibles. I know I am not alone in this "obsession", and I also know that when I say some cutters can set my heart racing...well, there are those of you out there, I am fairly certain, that have had that feeling as well.

The little bird above is one of those cutters. It is a mere two and quarter by two inches. It is so sweet and folky!

...and it's a bird!

By contrast, this fellow is a hardy nine by five inch steed.

Large or small, these early works of long ago tinsmiths make me smile.

Are you an early cookie cutter collector? Do you have a favorite subject, or do they all "make you smile"?

The wind here during the night was fierce, as the last bands of TS Debby bid farewell to the Gulf Coast. Streets remain closed, and debris is everywhere. The sky is bright this morning, as the sun struggles to appear. It's still very windy, but bits of blue sky can be seen through the clouds.

Are you watching the Olympic Trials? We love the swimming competitions...Mr. Mugwump swam with Rowdy Gaines on their high school team, and it's fun to see him commentate.

Hope your Summer is going well!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Rain, rain and more rain...

It has been raining nonstop since we woke up yesterday morning. Not a light shower or sprinkling...an all out torrential downpour. This tropical storm has been sitting on top of us, pouring rain and blowing high winds for over thirty six hours. Tornadoes have been sited way too close for comfort. The flooding is already causing problems and tides at the beach are washing over the sea walls.

This is what keeps popping up on the tv while we are trying to watch the Olympic trials. Thankfully, we still have power. Monday morning will be very messy around here.

We've been through hurricanes but we've never experienced anything like this!

Hope you are enjoying your evening,

Good night from very soggy Florida!

Orlando

We've been in Orlando for a few days. The hotel is a fun place to stay...it has a gigantic atrium with lots of ponds, waterfalls and living plants and trees right in the hotel.

All these guys are just hangin' out as you stroll by...going here and there.

These guys are at least eighteen inches long!

The plants and flowers are beautiful!

This is what you see when you look up. It's been raining, so it's not bright and sunny like it usually is.

We are headed home today...hope you are having a great weekend!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

...a little sheep

This small mat is a kit that Karen Kahle sells in her Etsy shop. It hooked up fast, and was fun and easy, and is, of course, a favorite subject for wool enthusiasts.

I have ordered some of Karen's fabulous marbled wool from her site, and am anxious to get started on her "Antique Lion" pattern. It is so wonderful...and so big! 26x51!!!

Thank you to those who left such kind comments on my last post. Annie now refers to her father as, "Famous Boy".

We have a busy week here...what happened to those lazy Summer days?

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Annie's Daddy

He carries her because it is difficult for her to maneuver stairs. He runs eight miles every other morning...sixteen on Saturday and Sunday...to stay healthy for her.

They have pet names for each other like Precious Boy and Annie Pie. She is out in the garage every night to welcome him home, before he is even out of the car. He goes to bed early...because of all that running...and she tucks him in.

She roots for the Celtics...

but is not a fan of his beloved Bucs.

They enjoy each other's company.

Receiving the President's Award at the Florida Bar Annual Meeting
...out of 90,000 attorneys in the state

She is so proud when he gets an award...."just like the Good Behavior Award at school.".

They have...

traveled...

many...

...many paths.

Happy Father's Day, Precious Boy!

...the journey continues...

Happy Father's Day to all! Have a great weekend!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Progress

Been pulling a few loops every day on Libby Bert. Happy with the progress so far.

This rug has a total of five colors...red, blue, white, gold and a wee bit of green. The different shades...saturations...of each of these colors give movement to the background and, I hope, a little zip to the other motifs. When working with such a limited pallet, it's a challenge to keep things "interesting".

I'm considering leaving the top and bottom of the original pattern off...hooking a border of red and white...turning this rug into a large pillow. At least that's what I'm thinking today!

Happy Flag Day!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Gotcha!

Last weekend, Mr. Mugwump put up a new bird feeder and pole for our feathered friends. Because the pole had to be painted, we had to let the paint set up before we greased it. We have found that Vaseline deters the squirrels...and adds to the entertainment as they try repeatedly to climb, only to slide to the bottom.

This little bandit took full advantage of the situation and proceeded to empty the feeder...brat!

However, there came a turn of events on Saturday morning...a recently greased pole had this fellow wondering, "What the heck?". He was sending me questioning looks as I snapped these photos from the sunroom. And then, being the determined and hungry squirrel that he surely must be, gave it his all trying to scale that slippery pole.

His efforts to climb were met with defeat, and he realized the seriousness of this dilemma.
He sat here a great while and became all too aware of the great expanse that separated him and his breakfast.

He explored a different route, "Hey Rabbit, do you mind if I stand on your head? Be still!".

"Maybe if I get a really good, long running start?".

"So close!".

Even as he explored every option, the competition was moving in. He resigned himself to the futileness of it all, and made do with those stray seeds that fell to the ground.
Don't pity this industrious bushy tailed rodent, there is a feast of corn cobs awaiting him in the front yard. He need only broaden his search.

A valuable life lesson in this backyard fable.

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

...on my frame

Another long unfinished rug is on my frame. I love this folky lady and will be pulling loops on her today. Think I'll have a finish by the 4th? Probably not...another trip is coming up, and we are into easy Summer mode here. It's way too hot to rush!

Need to fix that wayward jawline...oh my! But I do like her green eyes!

Hurricane season is upon us...not my favorite time of year!

Big thank you to all who left such lovely comments about my rug on my last post. Your encouraging words are most welcome and appreciated...such kind words, from such talented ladies...I am grateful.

Enjoy the day,
Robyn
