...a little swag

Over the weekend I managed to get the swags for my bedroom windows sewn up. I had originally wanted to use the pretty red crewel fabric I found, but, I decided I wanted swags and there was not enough of the crewel. So...I settled on this red Jacobean and lined them with small checks. I always line my swags with a complimentary fabric...I think it gives them a little extra zip.

It's been slow...getting this room together. I'll be playing with these two small swags for awhile...until they cooperate and lay right.

I like to use swags because they cover the shades when they are rolled up, but they don't block the light during the day.

Do you make your own curtains...drapes....swags? I have never bought a curtain for our home...ever.
It's just too much fun to do it yourself...and the possibilities are endless...I have yards of fabric waiting their turn.

Hope your week is going great!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

  1. Robyn, your little swags are very pretty and I love the fabrics you chose.
I've always made my own curtains. Now I have less time to sew and my old curtains are still dressing my windows and I haven't updated anything.

I love your Fall mantel decorations.

Hope that the sun is shining at your place today. It's a beautiful day.
    Hugs,

  7. Robyn ~
The swags are just lovely! I used to make my own but since moving almost 14 years ago (how can it possibly be that long???), I have nothing on my windows except the old fashioned roller shades that were here when I moved in. I am finally wanting something - not yet sure what - and I so have many windows I really need to find the time to make them. Sigh...just not enough hours in the day.
    Hugs :)

  13. Hi Robyn,
Your swags are simply beautiful and elegantly understated....the perfect compliment for your windows and that amazing rug!!! I always think of Aslan, the lion from The Narnia books, when I see it!!
I have made many a curtain and swag over the years but have found some wonderful curtains at local thrift stores of late and then if I move, they have become great yardage for my creations....a win/win either way!!
Hope you enjoy your week and say "Hi" to Annie!!
    Warm Hugs~~

  17. Hello, my name is Robin....and I have swag envy.... !!! Looks GORGEOUS my friend.... Ummmm, no....I do NOT make my own window treatments - even though I used to sew for hire.... In fact, most of my windows are nekked.... I do put treatments on the windows in the dining area and the kitchen, but that's a tale of woe in and of itself.... (Each and every one of the 6 windows in that area are a very different size, so buying them off the shelf is a virtual impossibility. The last ones I had were done over 10 years ago....I actually found some store made that fit some of the windows, and my sister-in-law and I altered some to fit others and then actually found the same fabric on the bolt and made the rest.... But, when our new windows went in a few years ago, I took the curtains down and washed them....big mistake....The store-bought ones all fell apart....and so the windows remain nekked now....cuz I'm not putting that kind of energy and effort into finding (or heaven help me, MAKING) new ones until I get the walls redone there...and that isn't going to happen until I get new countertops....and no new countertops until we get a new sink....Well, you get the idea....) (Wanna come to Nod and lend your expertise???) ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (Your lion rug is stop-in-yer-tracks GORGEOUS!!!)
