St. Valentine's Day

For the past couple of years, I have been collecting red and green samplers. The green in most of them is more of a khaki, a color that is a favorite of mine.

I didn't really do a lot of decorating for St. Valentine's Day. I did, however, pull out my samplers, and a few hearts, and an antique strawberry pin cushion. 

This sweet couple on horseback is an illustration from an early English primer...Parts of Speech. 

Hoping you have a wonderful Valentine's Day...spent with those you love...that a posy or two finds it's way to your table, as well as sufficient chocolate to make you smile...and a little candlelight too.

Annie's Sampler

My sweet and very talented friend Linda Babb made this wonderful sampler for Annie. We talked about motifs and colors and then Linda got to creating her magic. Annie and her dog, Clancy, are the main motifs...and a red heart above them is perfect.

It's a "shiny day" here in Florida...that's what Annie called a sunny day when she was very small. It makes it difficult to get pictures that do this sampler justice.

A brown owl and a red cardinal...some of Annie's favorite things! 

And, of course, her name.

My girl was all smiles when she opened this beauty on Christmas morning. She immediately saw her name and recognized Clancy and herself...and then the owl and red bird. She knows it was made just for her and like her...there is only one.

We are very lucky to have both of these originals living here at our home.

I'll be getting out my white slipcovers very soon. The sun is getting stronger and staying up longer and I don't want my newly covered sofa fading...it doesn't take much exposure down here to bleach out color.  

I have enjoyed the darker colors during the fall and winter but now it's time for a lighter look. Spring is on the way!

Amelia, you are a beauty!

Rain is in the forecast, the temperature...chilly by our standards, the view...

spectacular! 

We are in our "happy place". Yesterday, we drove up to Amelia Island. 

The venerable old live oaks, draped in Spanish moss, line the entrance to our very favorite hotel.

We counted up our stays here and came up with a nice round number...ten. The staff calls Annie by name and she loves it.

I took a stroll and visited some of my favorite works of art.

These bronze turkeys are magnificent! The never let me down!

Glad someone else has to keep this beauty clean and sparkling!

February Kitchen Window 2014

Mugwump Woolies dollies

Having trouble getting good pics of my window today. The overhead light in the window is flickering...even when I changed the bulb...so I don't want to leave it on too long. These are the best I could come up with for the time being.

Polly Put the Kettle On...by Debbee Thibault is part of the centerpiece on the bar in the kitchen. Antique French Linens rest in my favorite early black compote. The candlestick is from Pat and Don Gaddy of Old Bittersweet Farm.

I was tickled to find this wonderful vintage red and white damask towel recently...red and birds too!

The original tag says made in Czechoslovakia. It hangs proudly on the oven door.

It was twenty nine degrees when we arrived in Tallahassee last Wednesday. The city was closed down because of "black ice" warnings. Annie and I did make it to Thomasville, Georgia on Friday, but I did not take any pictures as we were in and out pretty fast because of the cold. My girl is a Florida girl and doesn't fare well in the bitter cold.

Every year, when we go to Tallahassee, Annie has a "Girl's Night Out" with a wonderful friend of ours who works for the Florida Bar. They go to dinner and talk, and talk, and talk. It is something Annie looks forward to all year long. Mr. MW and I grab a bite to eat and then meander through Books-A-Million. It's a blessing to have good people in our lives that love our girl. We are so very grateful for them.
