Back to my roots...

I have always been fickle when it comes to decorating our home. I like a lot of different "looks"...and  have had several. The furniture we picked for our home in the 80's and 90's limits the decorating bug in me. Most of our furniture is cherry or mahogany...good old Ethan Allen, Lexington and Council. When I wanted a more primitive look I knew I'd be working with what I had...no painted prims even if I could find them down here.

Lately, especially after our trip north, I've been wanting to go more colonial again...more traditional...what might be called high country. I knew it would happen, I just didn't think it would happen today.

I told my husband last night I had a bee in my decorating bonnet. When he left for the office today the mantle in our bedroom that serves as a headboard looks like this...

now...it looks like this...

I went shopping in my house. Specifically, in here...

What a mess! This lovely piece has crown glass and a dimmer for the light, and can look very warm when it is arranged and dusted. It's been something I've been needing to do for a long time. It has become a catch all.

Too much stuff and you can't see any of it. Time to thin things out!

Back to the bedroom. I've tired of the dark swags and will replace them with Williamsburg fabric I purchased before leaving Virginia.

It was on sale for 25% off with free shipping for a limited time so I bought it while on the road. It arrived yesterday. I must be insane. I swore the last time I would not make swags again. Never say never.

I grew up in a brick colonial..it was only a matter of time before I went back to my roots.

I'm wondering if Mr. MW will notice the changes.

I'm making myself tackle a cleaning/gleaning project every day. I've opened a wicked can of worms with this redo. Luckily, I'm in a get rid of it mood.

More of our trip coming soon.

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

  1. That lion is fabulous! Oh my goodness, he's just wonderful. Spring seems to inspire change doesn't it? Hope we get to see more.

  2. Thanks, Marly. He's been hanging up there for a couple of years and was starting to lose his shape. He's very heavy and dark. I will probably use him on the floor.

  3. What fun new fabric, and I, too, like many different styles....but I do love your current swags .... and, oh, that rug....that AMAZING rug!!!! Don’t you DARE put it on the floor!!!! I will open a hooked rug rescue in your name LOL. My goal has actually been to hook a rug for over the bed in our master bedroom.... I really do hope it happens in this lifetime LOL. I also love your collection of tole tins on top of the curio..... Such great collections and treasures you have. I need to take on some cleaning/purging projects myself...but have to make it through tax season first LOL.... ~Robin~

    1. Hello Miss Robin...I like the current swags, too. They are just too dark for summer in Florida....as is the dark rug. If the rug goes on the floor, it will go in a no traffic area. I use a few of my rugs on the floor and they take a real beating! Thanks for coming by and saying hello.

  4. wonderful fabric but I can't sew. Can't wait to see the changes I have been weeding out when I clean If I see something that just doesn't work I have a box going for the thrift.

  7. I've been decluttering my house of my stuff but now I'm trying to get my husband to go through his stuff. It's a V-E-R-Y slow progress. At least. this year, he's trying so I'm hopeful.

I love many styles of decorating too but I haven't changed anything in years. Life on the farm as always been priority. I don't think that I even have a style. lol. My sister in law changes house often and also she changes styles of decorating for the whole house. She is very talented that way.
Your house is always so well decorated and you have impeccable taste.
Looking forward to reading more of your posts.
    Hugs, Julia
