They're on their way...

Yesterday, to our pure delight, Mother Nature gifted us with a magical show. Dozens of robins migrating North stopped by for breakfast.

Our squirrels hosted the party and were gracious...and generous...and welcoming.

We were mesmerized as we watched the sweet birdies cover the yards on our block. It was difficult to get a picture of them, as they would scatter when they saw movement inside the house.

And then, as if on cue, they took to the sky and were gone. We were sad to see them go...but happy we were able to visit with them even briefly. Birdsong filled our heads for the rest of the day.

I am a firm believer in signs. A few years ago we missed the visiting robins. We had not seen a single  one. I was born in the Spring and my mother always called me her "Spring Robin"...it was my birthday and I was lamenting not seeing any robins that year. I had no sooner gotten the words out of my mouth...we were pulling into the driveway...and there on the roof...sat a lone robin.

Take heart my friends in the frozen North...the robins are on the way!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn/Robin (I added the y in high school)

  3. Oh that's so wonderful! I love the story and how you were your mom's spring robin. My DS was born on the first day of spring, so he's my spring baby. (I thought about calling him Robin too, but DH said no.)

  4. Isn't that the sign of an early Spring? I hope so. We could use a little Spring soon :)

  5. Oh Robyn! I hope they don't come too far North just yet! They'd be gonners for sure in this frozen land! But what a sight for sore eyes when they do return! I hope it's a sign that it's an early Spring!!
Love that you added the Y in High School! Very cool!!
    Hugs!!!!

  6. I just read orange sink's comment and I agree. It's too soon to come north. It's about 2 degrees here in southeastern Wisconsin. I'll have to be content with my punchneedle robins for a while, but I'll be on the look out.

  8. The Robin is our state bird here in Michigan and they come back in February..but our family believes the redwing blackbird is the true bird of Spring up here...they come back in March. Here by the river when I see the herons and egrets I know the weather will get warmer. Thanks for letting us know that they are on the move. Wonderful tory about the one Robin Janice
