Randomness...

With Spring peeking around the corner, we are enjoying our own little garden right here in the house. Annie and I planted our tiny plants in a large glass cylinder. We are having fun watching all the new growth on these tiny beauties. The plants look hardy and we are hoping this little garden stays healthy for a long time.

These are the sweet pink hearts I was lucky enough to win in Janice's giveaway over at Prims by the Water...aren't they yummy? They had a harried journey getting  here...but I'm so glad they finally did! Thank you Janice! They look good enough to eat!

This is how Mr. MW spent his Sunday morning. Even though the race started at 6:00 a.m. the temps were already high...close to eighty degrees and the humidity was way up there as well. The night before the race they sent out an email to warn people to hydrate and wear light clothing. The only clothing Mr. MW wears is his shorts, shoes and socks, and his running hat...and before the race he lost a third of those. Standing in a mass of bodies waiting for the starting gun...the guy in front of him was stretching and managed, somehow, to catch his foot on Mr.MW's shorts...inadvertently pulling them down...to his ankles...what??? "Did everybody laugh?", I asked when he relayed this silliness to me...his reply, "Nobody even noticed we were so squashed together and it was still dark out...I just reached down and pulled them up and the race started."

If you happen to know a serious runner, you know they are a little different from the rest of us. The outfit I described earlier...that's my husband's running apparel no matter what the temperature...ninety two degrees...or 29 degrees...shorts, shoes and socks, and hat...that's it. He's had elderly women scream at him that he was going to "catch pneumonia"!  He's had folks, who were once hardy Northerners but who now don parkas and mufflers to walk the dog when temperatures dip into the forties, yell "You're crazy!" at him. He says as long as he's moving he's o.k...and he did grow up in Connecticut. Whatever!

Me? My exercise this weekend was pulling a few loops.

Have a great week!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

I see rabbits...

As I continue to clean and sort, throw away and bag up, scrub and polish...I've managed to reacquaint myself with some old friends.

In my ongoing effort to "simplify", these old German bunnies will become our primary decorations for Spring. The many "cutesy" bunnies and lambs that have accumulated in boxes over the two decades we have lived in our little house...well, many of them didn't make the cut and are headed to the Salvation Army. Still others, the best of the lot, will make their way to the group home where my sister works and, hopefully, bring a few smiles to the lovely faces of the adults she helps care for...very "special" folks.

Have a wonderful weekend...stay safe!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

...memories & rocks

I am knee...make that waist...deep into Spring Cleaning. I've been staying away from the computer...such a distraction...but ran across these and wanted to share them with you.

Picked up on adventures here and there, these rocks remind me of places I've been and memories I've made. I am sure many of you have your own collections of these pocketbook friendly remembrances...such fun to pull them out...and remember.

I have many "naked" rocks as well...picked up from who knows where.

Note to self: Take along a Sharpie and label asap...because, no, you will not remember even though you are certain you will.

Now I have to get off this machine...clutter and grime await me. I'd rather be in.......

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

My favorite Valentine...a ceramic heart made by Annie in elementary school...pink, of course...and covered in glitter.

Have a happy Valentine's Day...hope it's full of fun...and chocolate...and a bit of sparkle!

RED......

Sunday...the first day of Valentine's Day Week. This is a post about the color red...my very favorite color. The color that can't help but cheer a gloomy day.

Here are a few favorite things...wearing my favorite red. Hope you will share some red with us this week!

... a scrap of a velvet crazy quilt

...a tiny, early pin cushion that bears a striking resemblance to Clifford

...early red doll dresses

...wonderful sampler box by Marly from Samplers and Santas blog

...red shoes

...red pantry box with early red paint

...a fine gentleman by Anne Childs

...early painted red bowl with "mends"

Don't you just love red?

If you are squeamish you might want to stop here.

Mr.MW took a tumble this morning on mile five of his 20 mile run. When you run unlit trails, at 5:00 a.m., you are bound to get caught up on vines or uneven terrain occasionally. If you have the misfortune to snag both feet...you go down...you learn to roll....you come home looking like this...

...hand

...knee...ouch!

shoulder...yikes

When he came home I asked him what he did when it happened...of course after many years of
"running boo boo's" I already knew the answer, "I got up and kept running."...for fifteen more miles. I also told him I was doing a post on red and that he fit right in...what a sport.

Yes, he does have an ankle i.d. tag with his info on it and no, I don't know exactly where he is when he's on a trail. We are fortunate to be good friends with our local police chief so if he is ever too long in coming home he has told me to, "Call Tony, he'll find me.". It's what he loves...I think good thoughts and say my prayers...and I only go out to fetch him when lightning is involved.

Hope those of you with lots of snow...stay warm...and safe.

...a bit of red in my garden this Sunday morning to let you know Spring is coming.

Robyn

...tools of the trade

Years ago, I hooked with a lady named Genevieve. Along with being a talented hooker, Genevieve made appliqued creations to cover Puritan frames.

The patterns were her own...each one different.

Genevieve also made snippet bags. They conveniently hang over the arm of your favorite hooking chair, and have a large magnet to hold your scissors at the ready.

A friend sent me the Quilted Crow button and a collection snowballed from there.

On our travels, I look for buttons to join this ever growing obsession.

As I hook, I am reminded of all the places our family has visited...and all the memories we've made.

When my girl was in elementary school she made me this beaded salamander that makes it easy to locate my ever wandering scissors.

...one of my most treasured possessions...

I hope to get a little hooking in over the weekend...surrounded by friends and memories...and a creation by my favorite daughter.

Have a great weekend...stay safe...there's a Nor'easter on the way!

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

Wee bits of green...

My girl and I have plans for today...

We purchased these lovely, tiny plants while in Tallahassee last week.

I've had this large glass container for ages and think it will be the perfect home for our diminutive specimens.

Aren't they the sweetest little things?

We'll show you our results soon.

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

February kitchen window...

My February kitchen window is simple...a little red, a little pewter...and a single polka dotted birdie by Norma Schneeman.

The red tulips were out in abundance at our local market...love red tulips! Through the window you can see my hooking chair and a bit of my floor hoop...it's calling me...telling me it's been idle far too long.

Annie is the Keeper of the Light in our house...she fires them up at the same time every evening. I love when my little house is lit with the warm glow of candles and lanterns...they make any home more cozy.

Love anything with polka dots....especially red birds! She sits upon an early painted red pantry box...one of my favorite things.

A simple window this February...

If you ever get to Tallahassee be sure to stop here...it's the best!

********************************************************************

There is a big football game here today...I'll be pulling for the Ravens. How can you not root for Michael Oher after The Blind Side?

**************************************************************

Happy Birthday, Mr.MW! Your girls love you lots!

Geraniums...

Thought I'd share a little red with you on this first day of February. A stroll through the beautiful Tallahassee Nursery provided lots of my very favorite color and one of my favorite plants as well...geraniums.

It was a chilly day by Florida standards...in the forties...but the sun was shining and the sky was a lovely blue.

This nursery is simply wonderful! It's like visiting a beautifully landscaped park...one that allows you to bring a little something home.

Annie and I made a few purchases for a special project we will be working on when we get home. We are very excited about it! We'll share our efforts when we get it all together.

It will be a few more weeks before the nursery is decked out in it's full Spring glory...

but it is worth the trip to see the beauty that is popping up already.

Have a great weekend...stay safe.

Enjoy the day,
Robyn
