Boring Hooker

I'm a boring hooker. I tend to go right for the same colors when planning my rugs...mustard gold, some sort of red/burgundy, various greens...dark background. Try as I might, I can't seem to get out of my comfort zone.

Until yesterday...this happened...

...a rosy, pinkish flower...

...with a little turquoise thrown in to help ratchet up my anxiety!

I'm struggling here...and will probably reverse hook this flower somewhere down the line. But for now, it's a love/hate relationship with pink and blue...and a mighty effort to keep that blasted comfort zone at bay.

My March came in "with" a lion...how about yours?

Enjoy the day,
Robyn

  3. Oh boy, do I hear you about colors! I've been thinking that I may be "stuck" on the same colors as you, but those are the colors that make me happy. They are the colors I like in my house. I've been Pinning (is that now in the dictionary? LOL) and as I review what I've pinned I see a trend - dark backgounds - usually black, with golds, browns, darker blues, darker reds. I guess all my rugs will look alike! What will your flower look like once you have the background hooked around it? It will be interesting to see the result. You might just talk me out of my comfort zone - although there isn't any aqua wool in this house.....
    Have a wonderful weekend. ~Ann

  5. I have to live with "things" for a while before I decide to keep it or not. Same with colors. If it makes me smile and feel happy then ok.
So far I like the flower but want to see the finished piece.
Little snow flakes are shifting by so I guess that means in like a lion here.
    Have a great weekend!

  9. I think most of us have a go to colors. I know some type of gold always shows up in my rugs. I do love your flower leave it until the end you just may grow to love it.

  11. Hi Robyn ~
I'm a boring hooker, too, but my Henny Penny rug does have purple feet because of Alice over at Folk Art Primitives, and I must say, I do rather like them.
    Hugs :)

  12. Robyn, I know your struggle. I love the same colors you do in my rugs but have thrown in some blue greens in some of my rugs and they do add a nice touch. I love how your flower looks but you are the one who has to live with it. May I suggest you leave it until you finish and then see if you like it better? Hugs, Lori

  13. I almost always use the same colors, I think because that is what we are drawn to. Nothing wrong with that, every rug hooker has their own style. This looks like a pretty rug, what is the pattern?

  15. I do understand trying to stretch ourselves creatively . . . but I too fear change and seem to have a "pallet".
Nothing wrong with creating what pleases your own eye and makes your heart happy! Your hooking is beautiful!
